Where to Go Rv Camping to See Snow
Holiday decorations have a tendency to take over more space than you'd think. Take, for example, the Christmas tree: With the addition of ornaments, a tree skirt, and presents, it claims a good chunk of your living room. That's why we're always so impressed when we see a small space decked out in well-designed holiday cheer that doesn't manage to overwhelm. So color us super, super-impressed with the RV home of Katie of Mountain Modern Life, which is pretty much a rolling winter wonderland with space to spare.
Katie and her husband Eric have been living in the RV since July, when they decided to spend a year on the road to find the home of their dreams. "Our goal is to visit states we've never been, explore national parks, check out small towns and ultimately figure out exactly where we want to buy land and settle down," she says.
The RV is surprisingly stylish on its own, a far cry from the kind of '80s-looking overstuffed mobile palaces we mentally picture when we hear the words "recreational vehicle." It's has a sleek, modern look that seems more like a well-designed apartment than a home on wheels. Of course, RVs tend to not come like that, so renovations were in order. After practically gutting the interior, Katie completely redid the kitchen, replaced the carpet with a more contemporary vinyl plank-style product, and reconfigured the living room area into a more open layout (complete with a custom media center).
The spacious design lent itself well to holiday decorating, but there were still practical considerations in mind. "When it came time to decorate our RV for Christmas, we decided to keep things simple using our tree and fresh greenery as the focal point. This way we wouldn't have to worry about storing tons of decorations afterwards," she says.
A small tree, plenty of string lights, garlands, and greenery wreaths help to enhance the home's warm and cozy design. "Our dream Christmas would be one spent in a cozy cabin surrounded by snow, so we used that as our inspiration," she says. Little festive touches can be found in every space inside the RV:

And did we mention that fantastic fireplace? We can't think of a better way to curl up on a chilly night.

If this enchanting makeover sold you on RV life, Katie has a few words of advice. "If there's anything we've learned about traveling in a RV, it's to be flexible," she says. "We have run into tons of challenges and are learning as we go, but try to laugh things off and chalk it up to experience. If anything, we're making memories and creating interesting stories we can share with our children one day."
We think those words of wisdom are something that anyone can follow, on the road or off.
